Filament morphogenesis

“Morphogenesis” is the biological process that causes organisms to develop their shape. Branching patterns, found throughout nature in trees, coral, rivers, lightning, and even within our bodies (like blood vessels and neurons), also resemble the vast galaxy filaments—the largest known structures in the universe, composed of massive, thread-like formations of galactic superclusters.

Both branching patterns and galaxy filaments embody the concept of interconnectedness, reflecting the underlying order of the natural world and the cosmos. This parallel suggests that similar principles of organisation and growth might govern both the microscopic and the cosmic, as if energy and life itself manifest through filamentous shapes.

Filament Morphogenesis explores filamentous patterns through a personal neurographic art process that brings calm and peace by painting free-flowing, abstract lines. This meditative practice maps thoughts and emotions, transforming them into visual forms, almost resembling a writing practice. These branching patterns symbolise the profound interconnectedness of everything in the cosmos and are often present throughout my work.
